Theo Cisu MD I Urologist and Vasectomy Clinic
The short answer: You don't need to have children, be married, be a certain age beyond adulthood, or have anyone's permission to get a vasectomy. Dr. Cisu's job is to make sure you have the full picture, including that it's permanent. The decision is yours.

Many men who don't want children worry they'll be lectured, told to come back when they're older, or asked to bring a partner's sign-off. That isn't how Dr. Cisu practices. Any well-informed adult can choose a vasectomy.
What you will get is an honest conversation. That means covering what a vasectomy is, that it should be considered permanent, how effective it is, and what recovery looks like. That's the conversation any good doctor owes you. What you won't get is judgment about your reasons.
The line you'll probably hear is "you'll change your mind." Studies of men without children who chose vasectomy have found low rates of regret, and not having children hasn't been shown to predict regret on its own. A decision you've thought about for years tends to stick.
Regret is more often tied to big, unexpected life changes, such as a new relationship with a partner who wants children, and to feeling pressured into the decision. Being young is a reason to be thorough, not a reason to be turned away.
You may still hear it from coworkers or family. You don't owe anyone a debate. "I've thought about this for a long time, and it's the right decision for me" is a complete answer.
Single, partnered or anything else, the decision is yours. If you have a partner and want them involved, they're welcome at the consultation.
Yes. Any well-informed adult can choose a vasectomy.
You need to be an adult. Younger men are more likely to change their minds later, so the consultation spends a little more time on the decision.
