Theo Cisu MD I Urologist and Vasectomy Clinic
The short answer: Most insurance plans cover vasectomy, but if you haven't met your deductible this year, you may pay much of the cost yourself. Dr. Cisu's clinics also offer a $580 cash price for the procedure and a lab semen analysis. Check your deductible, then compare.

"Is a vasectomy covered?" is usually yes. The more useful question is: have you met your deductible this year?
Your deductible is what you pay out of pocket each year before your plan starts paying for most care. Most people with employer insurance have one. According to KFF's 2025 Employer Health Benefits Survey, 88% of workers with single coverage have a general deductible, the average is $1,886, and about a third face $2,000 or more.
If you're healthy and rarely see a doctor, you may have spent little or nothing toward your deductible this year. In that case, when your vasectomy is billed to insurance, you pay your plan's negotiated rate for each charge until the deductible is met. For a planned procedure early in the year, "covered" can still mean "paid by you, at insurance prices."
Augusta Medical Group lets vasectomy patients choose a cash price instead of billing insurance for the procedure:
If you've already met your deductible this year, billing insurance may cost you less. That's often true in a year with a lot of medical care. One catch: many family plans have an individual deductible inside the family deductible, so your own care may still start from zero. Your plan documents will tell you which kind you have.
You can use a health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA) for your vasectomy, whether you use insurance or pay cash. That means you're paying with pre-tax dollars. Check your account's rules, and remember that many FSAs have a year-end deadline to use your balance.
Most plans do. Our office checks your coverage before scheduling.
The vasectomy and a lab semen analysis. The consultation is billed to insurance, and nitrous oxide is $75.
If it's billed to insurance, yes. The vasectomy (CPT code 55250) will appear on your plan's explanation of benefits, which may go to the policyholder. If you'd prefer privacy, choose the $580 cash option, and nothing is billed to insurance for the procedure.
Yes. HSA and FSA funds can be used for your vasectomy, whether you go through insurance or pay the cash price.
No. Plans vary a lot, so check your own plan's details before deciding.
