Traveling for Your Vasectomy: One Trip From Anywhere in Virginia

Traveling for a Vasectomy in Virginia: One Trip | Dr. Theodore Cisu

Coming from Richmond, Northern Virginia, Roanoke or beyond? Telehealth consult from home, one trip for your vasectomy, and the semen test done locally.
Dr. Theodore Cisu

The short answer: Men travel to Dr. Cisu's dedicated vasectomy clinics in Charlottesville and Fishersville from across Virginia. Your consultation is by telehealth, your semen test can be done locally or by mail, so procedure day is the only trip you make.

Why one trip is enough

  • No consult trip. You meet Dr. Cisu by video from home or work and decide before you ever get in the car.
  • No return trip. Your semen test, about three months later, can be done at a local lab or with a mail-in kit.
  • A short visit. The procedure usually takes about 10 minutes, and most men are in and out in about 45 minutes.

Making the trip easy

  • Choose your comfort option with the drive in mind. With nitrous oxide only, it wears off within minutes and you can drive yourself home. With Valium, bring a driver.
  • Book a morning. Keep the rest of the day for the couch.
  • Book a Friday. The weekend becomes your recovery time, and many desk workers are back on Monday.
  • Bring an ice pack and a pillow for the ride home.
  • Staying over is optional. Some couples make a night of it in Charlottesville or the Valley, but most men head home the same day.

After you're home

If something worries you, call the office at (540) 332-5630. Most questions can be handled by phone, and Dr. Cisu can help coordinate care closer to home if needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I drive home two hours the same day?

Yes. With nitrous oxide only, you can drive yourself. With Valium, ride as a passenger.

When can I fly or travel after a vasectomy?

Most men can travel within a few days. Avoid heavy lifting, including heavy luggage, for the first week.

Do you see patients from outside Virginia?

Patients from neighboring states are welcome for the procedure. Telehealth visits depend on the state you're in at the time of the visit, so the office will confirm when you book.

Is the price different if I travel?

No. Insurance coverage and the cash price are the same no matter where you live.
